I've done more Damage Immunity by doing this on manual, but the reality is that I would rather give up 1-2 extra battles for the sake of not having to deal with the whole battle.
You can simulate this type of battle by replacing somebody with Wat and not needing Voluntary Vanguard. However this will deactivate Cere's unique and make it harder for her to use her middle special as often.
